The Rotary Club of Pahoa Sunset recently announced its first “Student of the Month” for this school year in the Puna district.
The Rotary Club of Pahoa Sunset recently announced its first “Student of the Month” for this school year in the Puna district.
Jonathan Facklam is a freshman from Kua O Ka La school. He was selected by the school’s administrators because of his active participation in the school’s “Read Aloud Program.” Jonathan read more than 220 books during the summer.
Rotary Club of Pahoa Sunset President Craig Watkins said the service club is honoring students each month who demonstrate progress in their schoolwork.
School teachers and administrators select the student of the month. Each receives a gift card and a certificate of recognition. Awards are presented each month at a Rotary meeting.
Rotary members gather at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in the historic Akebono Theater in Pahoa. The public is invited to attend.
